Art for Mid Century Homes
Whether you are searching for artwork to spiff up your home to sell or need new pieces for that dream home you just closed on, we have several unexpected places to check out for artwork.
The 1970s never left — at least for Jill Armstrong, owner of @fabrication78. She specilizes in stretched vintage fabric pieces from well known and unknown artists. We recommend bookmarking her shop on Instagram so you don’t miss her 8 am post each day. Pieces tend to sell as soon as she posts them.
A great spot to find a wide range of artwork. You will certainly find an artist that matches your vibe. And they offer much more than art for your walls including window treatments, bath towels, even apparel. In our own home we have a lot of artwork that incorporates the sun motif. We did a search on the word sun on this website and boom — we had pages of amazing art and other items to select from. It also feels good to support artists who may not otherwise have an opportunity to showcase their designs.
Herman Miller Re-issued Design Posters
These posters from such design masters as George Nelson and Stephen Frykholm have been reissued by Herman Miller. We particularly love Frykholm’s picnic posters. These posters were designed for Herman Miller’s annual company picnic beginning in 1970. The vintage picnic posters which you can sometimes find on ebay can be quite pricey. These reissued posters are at a lower cost and best of all, they are in much better shape.
Chances are if you ever took a home tour during Palm Spring’s Modernism Week you spotted more than one of Michael Murphy’s paintings or illustrations. His depictions of such modernism landmarks as Albert Frey’s Tramway Gas Station or the Cochella Savings and Loan Building bring a little bit of the Palm Springs vibe into your home. Browse his Supersonic website for scenes from Palm Springs, San Francisco, Sea Ranch, Los Angeles and more.
We checked out the studio of graphic design artist Gary Wexler on a recent trip to Palm Springs and left with two amazing pieces from this graphic design artist. His last name might sound familar — he is the son of famed modernist architect, Donald Wexler.
We recently added a piece from artist MJ Elmore to our salon wall. Elmore works primarily in oils. We love her modern landscapes where she reduces a scene down to its most essential elements. Her landscapes work well with vintage finds.
