Mid Century Design Inspired Mail Boxes

A local homeowner has this cool mid century inspired mailbox.

It is not unusual to walk by a cool mid century home that has a mailbox that just doesn’t jibe with the architecture of the home.  Even though a mail box is functional doesn’t mean it can’t complement the design of the home.

Here are a few ideas for mid century design inspired mail boxes.

ModBox has only been in business since 2014 but they seem to dominate the mid century curbside mail box market. In 2015 they introduced wall-mounted mailboxes and in 2022 they added locking mechanisms to both their curbside and wall mounted mailboxes. Powder coated color sample plates can be ordered for a small fee so you can make sure the color works with your home. Address plaques can be added to their mailboxes as well.

When we moved to our Streng home we looked forward to installing a curbside mid century inspired mail box in front of our home. The reality of our small cul-de-sac is that most of the homes have mail slots in the garage or front door making a curbside mail box stand out in not a good way. We also are out of town frequently so the security of a mail slot worked best for us.

There is something elegant about the simple design of a mail slot. We like this one from Budget Home. The stainless steel finish matches the door hardware on our garage door and front door. They also offer options in other metal finishes.

The aptly named Modern Mailbox offers a very distinctive design.
